Warm Home Grant 2026: Up to £15,000 in Free Home Upgrades

What is the Warm Home Grant? The Warm Home Grant — officially the Warm Homes: Local Grant — is a government-funded scheme delivered through local councils in England. Eligible households can receive up to £15,000 worth of free energy-efficiency upgrades, including insulation, heat pumps and solar panels. What's included? Depending on what your property needs, you could receive: Loft, cavity wall or solid wall insulation Draught-proofing An air source heat pump Solar panels Smart heating controls Other low-carbon heating measures Successful applicants have reported potential bill savings of up to £660 a year. Who can apply? You may qualify if you own your home or rent privately in England and your property has an EPC rating of D, E, F or G — plus at least one of the following: Your gross household income is £36,000 or less You receive a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Housing Benefit You live in an eligible postcode area Private tenants can apply, but the landlord must agree to the improvements. The scheme is delivered by participating councils and runs until 31 March 2028 — but availability varies by area, so check with your council. Is it a loan? No. This is a grant, not a loan. The council or its delivery partner pays for the approved work — you don't receive cash and you don't pay it back.
